How backward is backward thinking?

Backward reading can be fun however pointless it serves. Backward thinking, on the other hand, is conflicting it makes investigating and experimenting the skills to hone.

Stranded on Root

It is disheartening to know the devastation caused by a typhoon in my country. Although it has been a regular scenario ever since I became aware of it, factors like climate change, proper disposal of increased waste must be seriously considered to lessen the effect of the rainy season, that is flood.

I remember growing up as a child being asked with this question: "Gaano kataas ang baha sa inyo?" (How high is the flood level in your place?)

What We Can Teach to the Children

This very inspiring story about  what we can teach to the children to become an effective leader that appreciates the difficulty and works to make things done for the benefit of everyone.
One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.
He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision.
The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

Humanism Way to a Better Us Explained by Experts

The Scientific Method

The video showcases reputable experts in their field from biology, psychology and philosophy and their take on humanism. Its introduction to humanism answers the questions on its importance, having life in the here and now, finding a way to live an ethical life, realizing the use of human's ability in discovering our nature and how can we use the understanding to our advantage.

Understanding is an effective way to better our standing as an individual immersed in diversity. This can be done by the habit of critical inquiry that changes mind when facts are presented. Scientific thinking hones this ability. The wonder, entertainment and thrill that science and scientific way of thinking serves, as Richard Dawkins enunciated, is a poetry of reality.

"It's up to us" summarizes it all.

The Time is Write

Poetry is an...

Poetry is an… (Photo credit: liber(the poet);)
Reading The time Is Write blog on Making a Leap made me wonder if I am becoming the writer I want to be. Which brings me to a question do I really know what I want to write?
The blogger’s preference to creative nonfiction over fiction enables me to consider if my shower of poetry is refreshing both to me and to those who consider to read it.
Suddenly I feel unappreciated. My poetry sucks most of the time but I still continue because my appreciation of thoughts turn to words brings me unprecedented scent of well-being.
So, to beat the insecurity out of me, I hit the keyboard in the “poetry writing tips” letters (of course ‘enter’ at the end) and found this useful blog
Don’t be afraid to write from a different point of view. Write a poem that says exactly the opposite of what you believe. If you can’t do it without irony.
Listen to talk radio while you write. Listen to the people who call. Great characters and voices emerge that way.
Aside from fact that the above tips are my favorites and I resolve to do in my next attempt to bathe with words, will it bring me back to the question do I really know what I want to write?
All I know is I just want to better my poetry and continue to have a habit of writing since I started using WordPress blog this month. So any topic that would arouse my ire(not this case, of course), feed my curiosity, and widen my horizons will soak my writing tub.
To cover my naked writing prowess is to towel nameless topic.

How can I be the change I want to see the world?

Seeing the world with less misery has kept me dreaming. So in my attempt to make this dream come true, I have come up with what makes my life miserable and its resolution.

Pleasing Everybody. It is the easiest way to avoid conflict, earn validation, consume energy and time, and get disappointed.

Since I know how powerful mind can create thoughts and its ability to make it a reality, the tendency to be right is so convincing it makes you forget other minds. The good news is so as everyone else. Being kind to stupid idea, nice to useless thoughts, and pleasing to ignorance are conflicts to the ability of one's mind. To avoid conflicts, I tend to forget my ability to reason and to converse. It makes me miserable.
What now? I resolve to express what I contemplated as right and be accountable of the consequence.Just have to give my best shot hoping that it will not kill anyone. And remind myself that I can also get hit because I chose to be around.  Otherwise, stop finding sweet chili.

God works in "Mysterious Ways"

Which God? If you can answer that without ending in a debate or being butchered, we can proceed to the "mysterious" way.

If you can, would you?

Theirs is a life where an old, dirty ball kissing the dust is their only source of joy, where memories of their loved ones are their only possession, where their only hope is to have a food to be shared and wake up the next morning with body parts intact if not burned to death. This is the everyday reality of the children in South Sudan trapped in a war that gives meaning to Sam Childers’ life. His humanity made me watch the movie “Machine Gun Preacher” till the end. It makes me dwell on the question if I could, would I?

Major Performance

Sixth Sense, as Wikipedia defined, is

Above mentioned gadget is another means for humans to acquire knowledge crucial for decision making.

"Minority Report"  featured this technology. In this movie, easy access to information through intangible interface prevented crimes to realize until its venal use.
In Hardwire movie, a chip implanted in the person's brain to set the stage of advertisements performed by projected actors in one's brain simulated a sixth sense activity. It is done to ascertain the effect of influencing a person to buy products.

As depicted in the movie characters' performance, the desire to make right decisions should fuel the mass production of this wearable gestural interface.

Cognitive ability has helped humanity survived dangerous circumstance by foreseeing (weather forecasting, statistical occurrence). Interconnecting patterns raised by both intuition and acknowledgement of desire were utilized to improve lives: easy access to information, thus making intelligent acts. Its utilization to ensure the survival of the billion years of evolution is an appreciative gesture to the sacrifices made. Its the gesture that finds meaning in one's desire.

Which desire to be met is a question of one's value system.

Do we value convenience more than hard work to achieve knowledge to be able to choose? Do we value popularity more than accomplishing the task rightly? Do we value wisdom for using this sixth sense to promote informed choice rather than using it as advertisement to lure unnecessary consumption?

A gesture is worth a thousand words. A minority report in a major performance.

My Why to Live

"He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how..." - Nietzsche.

To some, the why to live is answerable by the values we accord to our accomplishments. Mothers have their children. Fathers support their family. Children meet parents' expectations. These reasons can keep us going.

Let's not forget that this question invented dogma, if not polymagma, as an absolute answer.

The reason to live is to keep living is a no-brainer reply. For me, it can only be done with confidence to make it done no matter what. Remember the bunny drumming its way along the great wall of China. Just keep on going.

Self-empowerment is my inertia to giving up. The friction that goes with it does not burn me up but warms me enough to gain the energy. Just like the exercise that makes me sweat to be healthy, the resistance improves my way of life.

As much as I want to elaborate more how sweat cleans up the dirt off my skin, I would stretch it more to an "open" idea.

Self-empowerment opens me up to life's challenges. It makes me hear the popular opinion and plays the rhythm with my own mind. It makes me see the big picture and makes sense how the details fit in the figure. It makes me taste the spices in life and devour not the usual appetite. When life secretes "odor" that is attractive to nosy parasites, it raises my hand and serves as an invitation to have a try. It moves me to feel the external lives.

This is my reason to live. To make sense of my life. Experience the noise and lullabies, the ugliness and its beauty, stay hungry and foolish, fill myself up till saturated, discharge the unwanted when it gets constipated, to act more than to react.

Self-empowerment fuels my direction and values, motivation, emotional stability, positive mind-set, self-awareness, flexibility in behavior, eagerness to develop, health and energy, willingness to take risks, and sense of purpose. If those are not enough reasons to have a life, I will just resort to bullying those full of drama.
Most importantly, I feel accomplished when I am standing up when standing is not
easy. That means my inner force is greater than "gravitational" pulls. In exercising self-empowerment, my life has been in motion on a solid ground.

Tree of Courage

I believe that standing for a reason is not ostracizing. Simply because humans are reasonable.

On my way...

On my way...is just another journey

To a land of infinite possibility

where the vastness is a discovery

magnified by my curiosity.

"Remember to look up at the stars
and not down at your feet.
Try to make sense of what you see

and wonder what makes the universe exist.
Be Curious...

There's always something you can do and succeed...Prof. Stephen Hawking

Turn the world upside down

enjoy the view from the ground

Sky is blue when darkness is gone

it is mysterious when stars come

Open the mind, dare to think different

unlock limitation and be innovative

wind seems only allows us to breathe

it can wing us to sources of unknown bliss.

Life teaches us to choose. Education trains to make right choices.

Motherhood

Mothers are the most forgiving people in the world. The following should not be mistaken.

If kids were sick, it doesn't mean that the mother is wrong in taking care of them, or they were not able to strengthen their immune system even if they were breastfed, it is just that kids must experience and eventually know what their body can tolerate, in order for them to enhance it.

If kids failed expectations, say to be good and smart, it doesn't mean that motherhood fails in recognizing them to be a model of their parents. It is just that kids have their own way and happy with that. Remember that it's too early for the kids to act as ourselves. Let them have their own lives to live.

Most importantly, if kids didn't learn, it is not because motherhood fails in doing the right thing. It is because she cannot forgive herself for doing everything wrong believing her choice is the only right.

Enough

Is enough something easy to quantify and hard to achieve? Or, is it something hard to quantity but easy to achieve?

In fairness...

Even if life is teaching me that it is not fair, it's the lesson I have to learn, unlearn and relearn.

I have to learn that life is not fair because one cannot always get what one wants. I have to unlearn that getting whatever I want defines me as a person. I have to relearn that justice  is a want that defines me as a person.

Although I will still understand those who adhere to the "life is not fair" mantra but be not offended if my way of injustice is inflicted to you as you wanted. We always get what we deserve. That's justice.

The above image is justifiably hilarious. If the cat is getting more than what it deserves while the bitch is contended to have its space, is it fair to think that the former is illogical (big space for small animal), emotional (gets offensive and cat-ty on the idea of justice ) and defensive (insecurity issues at large)?

You can never win a battle full of cheating. Personally, I adhere to the idea that justice prevents me to cheat.

In fairness, I can only speak for myself.
