Let Them Feed the Unwanted

The above link is an article of Ms. Jaileen Jimeno on family planning. She pointed out how our economist woman president favors the decision of the Catholic Church and, for me, fears its influence as Ms Jimeno articulated:

"When she first took power in 2001, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo initially issued confusing statements on her family planning policy. She once admitted using pills in her early years as a mother and wife, but said that as a Roman Catholic, it made her go to confession. In 2002, in an apparent effort to woo the Church, which supported her predecessor’s ouster, she ruled out the purchase of contraceptive materials and tossed the responsibility of buying these supplies to local governments. She has since fortified that policy to placate the Church as her government battled numerous threats to its survival. It has also resulted to the undue delegation of official power and handing over of state funds to a private group allied with the Church. "

Some interesting facts were also included in her article such as:

1. Couples for Christ, a private Institution, is using government fund to preach against artificial contraception.

2. Rise on abortion rates (in my opinion: maybe, they do not believe in the idea that prevention is better than cure. And besides there’s this ‘don’t give a damn on facing the consequences of actions’ because there’s always this forgiveness of sins)

3.Six in 10 Filipino women had an unintended pregnancy at some point in their lives because of lack of access to and knowledge of modern contraceptives.

4.Women who had abortion come from all classes, the majority are “married, poor, and Catholic.”

5. In July 2007 World Bank reports that Filipino women seek abortion is “often due to difficulties in obtaining access to an appropriate method of contraception, incorrect or inconsistent use of contraceptive methods, and contraceptive method failure.”

6. 10 to 12 women die everyday, or around 3,650 to 4,380 every year, because of pregnancy and related cases.

7. Suneeta Mukherjee of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reported that 99 percent of maternal deaths are preventable if family planning is promoted in places with high birth rates could help cut the maternal mortality rate by as much as 35 percent.

As far as I know, more uneducated population means more stupid voters. More people leads to more poverty. The more impoverished people we have in the society, the more market for the crutch offered by the religion business.

If they are really true and serious to what they so called moral teachings, then let them feed all the unwanted children. And do not inflict guilt feelings to those who practice cognitive thinking. Since they keep on meddling in female reproductive decision and government political affairs, I suggest the following

1. TAX those religious institutions in lieu of/together with the VAT/EVAT and use those funds to send the growing unwanted children to school.

2. Feed those unwanted children from remote area. Not only those street children in religious institutions being sponsored by the nearby rich village and rich companies and accessible to media

3. Increase the number of scholarships to its maximum level in elite universities and colleges for the purpose of having more educated unwanted citizen and not only for marketing purposes. Elite in terms of tuition fee.

4. Be true and serious to their celibacy and not to have more than one family. (but that’s another story)

If you have any suggestions, comments or reactions, be assured that you will never be ostracised and condemned or sent to eternal fire. Just leave a comment and I will be most willing to add it with a smile.
