My day created new opportunity to re-use forgotten resource. I got
an old planner for a new journal. My reading on "Effective Writing 2"
entices me to better one of my interests. The best part of it, I am able to
realize the lesson I learned by writing my first entry in this journal.
Writing requires
organization of thought in order to attain your purpose. Meaningful writing
enables the readers to identify the main idea in the paragraphs. Topic sentence
that usually occurs at the first or second sentence of the paragraph contains
the subject and main idea. Subject with main idea should be written to
specifically describe, narrate, compare, identify, explain, tell the cause and
effect, demonstrate, argue, or list the steps in the process as the purpose of
the paragraph. After the topic sentence is stated, supporting sentences should
follow to develop the main idea. The last sentence concludes the paragraph to
remind the reader of its intention. Therefore, organizing the paragraph
involves planning its structure and sentences in order to suit the purpose and
create meaningful reading material.
Finding a topic
to write about is an easy task. Staying focus to a topic needs attention and
considerations. Keeping the topic sentence specific is an effective way.
Simple fact and general opinion as controlling idea on the subject
attract more information to be included. For example, the subject ‘Writing is a
skill’ does not direct you to a purpose of the main topic. It can make you jump
from explaining why it is a skill to stating tips in gaining this skill to
reason in learning writing skills. Stating ‘Effective writing skills can be
easily learned by following KISS’ as a topic sentence lets you limit the
supporting sentences to the steps of the technique. Another topic sentence
could be ‘Writing skill entitles an individual with advantages’. In the given
main topic, the effects of the skill will comprise the supporting sentences.
Detailing the main topic in order to state the paragraph’s goal and control the
flow of information explains why composing it requires attention.
Writing is a
skill honed by practice. Can I write the skill I learned? Your answer will
conclude the realization of my journal entry’s creative intention.
