A disturbing video made me think to react. Better yet, made me react to think.
It is about an expatriate's video on the 20 things he hate about my country. Although there's also video about 20 things he loves about it, hearing something negative about one's origin infuriates anyone. That's how I felt.
As I try to understand the context and the reaction I had, I still give him the benefit of the doubt. This is what I posted in my fb account.
- I am proud to be a Filipino. We are brought out to be a loving people. That's why we can accept even the crappiest things. That's why, most of the time, corruption gets away with its with obvious consequence.
Our sensitivities make us sugarcoat things. From being accommodating to smiling even if we don't really feel like. Because we love to care.
Westerners find solace in transparency. They get away with telling you the real problem is or sue you.
For me, if you don't find shit as shit, then have faith with that shit and move on. Otherwise, don't hate the person who has the gut and ass to dispose it.
Me thinks it hurts that other people are trying to make us and the world see what we fail to address.
I don't hate Jimmy for being him. What he said hurts because it's a reality.
