The sexiness of Angelina Jolie playing a patrol cop with forensic talent as recognized by Denzel Washington’s role as revered Tetraplegic forensic
expert making his brain the most attractive part are some of the
reasons why “Bone Collector” is an interesting serial killer movie to
watch. Most importantly, it teaches us how to humanize again the son of a
b*tch who dehumanizes his victims.
Amelia Donaghy's
(Jolie) and Lincoln Rhyme's (Washington) analysis of the clues left by
the killer led them to a published book entitled “Bone Collector.” The
wasted lives of the victims are attempts to get the attention of the
forensic expert. It is also to inflict guilt to Rhyme for not saving the
victims on time despite of the clues provided by the killer. In the
end, the person closest to Rhyme is the one intending to avenge his fate
sealed by Rhyme’s ability to figure a person’s capability to inflict
harm to others.
My take on this mayhem is the killer’s
inability to accept his wrongdoings- implanting false evidence in the
crime scene, the reason he was convicted and jailed. He blames Rhyme for
his fate and used his intelligence and expertise to get even to an
invalid and already sick person wanting to commit suicide.
What motivates the killer to implant false evidences? Unfortunately, it is not explicitly elaborated in the movie.
Is
it his obsession to be recognized? Is it the attention for this
recognition? Is it to help to solve a crime? Is it his needs to be
satisfied? Is it the satisfaction itself?
Understanding humanizes even the vilest creature.
